Microsoft has announced that starting October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will officially be obsolete for non-commercial users, removing support and updates for the operating system (OS). While many Microsoft users have fully transitioned Windows 11, commercial entities, such as IntelliBatch® by Egan Company, will continue to support the legacy operating system, ensuring your software and batch plant operation remains unaffected.

Support for Windows 10 Once End of Life Occurs

Since the end of 2022, Egan Company’s IntelliBatch® team has purchased systems with the IoT Enterprise Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) version of Windows 10, rather than the standard desktop version. Many critical manufacturing facilities have integrated this version for its security and long-term support, even after the official end of life. While the October 2025 date marks the end of support for consumer desktop versions, the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS will be supported by Microsoft for 10 years from its last release date (November 16, 2021), meaning that it will be fully functional and supported until November 2031.

The primary difference between the IoT enterprise version of Windows 10 that’s found in your IntelliBatch® system and the desktop version that is used on consumers’ computers is that it does not automatically update to newer versions of the software. This protection puts restrictions on Microsoft-driven updates, enabling concrete batch plants to maintain operability and prevent the loss of productivity due to uncontrollable network downtime. Computer updates happen on schedules set by equipment operators and batch plant managers, ensuring the systems are running when they should be. The operability of the computer systems and necessary updates will not be affected by the end of Windows 10 support in October 2025.

How to Prepare

Currently, there is no immediate action that needs to be taken for batch plant operators utilizing the IntelliBatch system. The software will run like normal, and your batching controls will always be supported by Egan’s IntelliBatch team.

Before 2031, you may need to update your hardware and software. This will coincide with regular equipment maintenance and upgrades by the IntelliBatch team, in order to keep everything running like it should. The goal is to minimize disruptions and prevent downtime as much as possible.

Keeping Your Batch Plant Fully Functional

It’s all about making sure your facility runs smoothly and efficiently. The team is always looking ahead to upcoming changes, necessary upgrades, and regular equipment maintenance to help keep your batch plant in prime condition.

While the upcoming end of life for Microsoft 10 is significant, it will not immediately change the way your IntelliBatch system operates or the service you receive. If you have any questions on your specific equipment, the operating system you are running, or if you need 24/7 support, get in touch with the team and Egan can help make sure your plant runs like clockwork.
